post Shark Sets Record

October 15th, 2007

Filed under: hype — Tom @ 10:15 pm

“Jaws” caught. Not the Hollywood shark of course, but one that has been compared to it.

Last week a record breaking Mako shark was caught. The shark was 11 feet long.

the fishermen had no intention of shark fishing, seems that the shark went looking for them.  The Mako was eating the grouper fish they were hooking, and eventually ended up on a hook himself.

It took 4 hours to land the shark once the struggle began. The boats captain, who has 40 years experience on the ocean, has never seen a shark that big.

Even after it was gutted, it still weighed 638 pounds, which is more than twice the old record.

post Goats Fix Jet

September 5th, 2007

Filed under: News, hype — Tom @ 8:54 pm

Well heres a new way to deal with technical difficulties… find an unrelated animal and kill it as an offering to a machine. Way to live in the dark ages guys!

Airline authorities  in medieval nation of Nepal have sacrificed two goats in a effort to end aircraft technical issues.

The goats were sacraficed in front of a Boeing 747 jey at the international airport in Nepal after it starting having an electrical problem.

Officials hoped the offering would make happy the Hindu sky God , and in return the god would grant blessings to the jet.

The Nepal airlines, which posesses two Boeing jets, has had to pause some fights in recent time because of  problem.

Nepal Airlines says the sacrifice - done in accordance with Hindu practicess - was effective and they are performing services as normal

That area is home to the Newa tribe, whose history is loaded with   rituals and pageantry.

In one very odd tradition, menstruating girls are taken  from boys and kept in a competely dark room for 12 days.

On the 12th day, the young lady then worships the sun.

I wonder, does the education curriculum include science?

August 20th, 2007

I like Zookoda, allow me to elaborate.

Zookoda makes things super simple, and by simple I mean a kid could do this. Head over to Zookoda.com to follow along.

You just sign up, and enter the pertinent information for your blog. Let zookoda know when and how often to send a newsletter comprised of your rss/atom feeds to your subscribers. Readers subscribe via a little registration box made fo code zookoda supplies to you. Easy right?

Its quite apparent that sending blog summaries to your readers will boost your site traffic. It reminds your readers that your blog is active and shows them what current content looks like.

I thought I would need to make a second account for a different blog, but I was wrong! Zookoda allows me to have multiple blogs and contains settings for each blog I add. Did I mention Zookoda is free? Yeah, its free and it works!

I am boggled by the length of time it took to get a service liek this to the blogging community, but now that its here I cant imagine not having it. I am pleased I have a way to reach my readers, especially those that may not understand how to use a rss aggregator. Now I can send them my posts at regular intervals. This is email marketing simplified!

post Blackjack Added to the 4in1 Game Lobby By Backgammon Masters

August 19th, 2007

Developer “All-in-One Game Software” now has BlackJack!! Black jack adds to the already addictive fun of games like backgammon, poker, and perudo.

Of all the sites I have gone to and enjoyed this is the only one that allows you to play free, in an animated client. It allows you to use 10 languages. (Spanish, Arabic, Turkish, Hebrew, French, Japanese, Danish, Greek and German, and English). This particular provider of interactive entertainment boasts thousands of players networked at any given time. And now that they have BlackJack on the menu you can expect the number to grow exponentially.

The game itself offers high speed play, coupled with stunning visual graphics, each table holding up to 5 players. Each player can choose to create his own avatar which i had a bit of fun with. You can chat with fellow players, and even more interesting, the games possess a “view” mode, which allows other players to sit out and just watch the action!

Backgammon

Backgammon is a board game for two people in which pieces are moved based on the roll of dice. The first player to remove all of one’s own pieces from the board is said to be the winner. It is a part of the tables family, one of the oldest classes of games in the world.

Perudo

Perudo is popular dice game played in Peru, Chile, Bolivia and other South American countries. This game may be played by two or more people and, basically, is made up of guessing how many dice, under cups, there are on the table showing a certain number. The player who loses a round loses one of their dice. The last player having a die is the winner.

Blackjack

Blackjack is one of the most popular casino card games in the world. Blackjack’s popularity is due to the mix of chance with elements of skill, and the publicity that surrounds card counting . Blackjack’s precursor was vingt-et-un (”twenty-one”), which originated in French casinos around 1700, and did not offer the 3:2 bonus for a two-card 21.

Poker

Poker is a popular type of card game in which players gamble on having the better card combination (”hand”), by placing a bet into a central pot. The winner is the one who holds the hand with the highest value according to an established hand rankings hierarchy, or otherwise the player who remains “in the hand” after all others have folded (the player who makes an un-called bet.

Enjoy playing Backgammon, Perudo, Poker, and Blackjack.

post Firemen Die Near 9-11 Site

Filed under: Reference, News, Events, Government, Business, Finance, Blogroll, hype, Social, Blog — Tom @ 8:52 pm

Two firefighters were killed and a half dozen others injured in a fire in an abandoned skyscraper adjacent to the Twin Towers site.

Smoke was seen from the fire and it panicked people concerned with toxicity.

These fears  appeared to be unwarranted.

It seems the NYC fire department keeps taking hits. We salute these fine men and the efforts they put forth and the risks they take.

The injured men are recovering well. The cause of the fire is not apparent.

post Extra Money?

August 19th, 2007

Yeah, we all want it, but how exactly does one get money? Theres the working method. Thats good for paying the bills, but suppose those the hot girl ( or guy) you want to impress, Fridays on its way, but your check it spent! Argh! The bills!

So here’s what i do:

I get a personal loan from a trustworthy lender, this gets me through the pinch, and can really impress the girl. *smiles*

Theres an alternative for those of us that require it, and its often the best and fastest choice, a secured loan will often do what you thought impossible.

Both of these options are viable and recommended. I have found the very low fee I pay is more than worth the pleasure and success I enjoy because of the extra money I possess on the weekend, or on vacation.

I enjoy UKpersonalLoanStore.co.uk because they are fast, friendly, have the best loans.

post Russia to Bring Old Aircraft “Out of ‘Mothballs’”

August 18th, 2007

The russian President said the reason they are resuming long range patrol flights is due to security threats.

Mr Putin said they had 14 bombers take off on Friday.

Moscow said its bombers began  training over the North Pole.

Russia has been conducting joint military training with the chinese.

Russia is complaining that we are too strong, and they appear to fear US aggression.

“Flights by other countries’ strategic aircraft continue and this creates certain problems for ensuring the security of the Russian Federation,” Putin said.

Russia stopped alot of its patrols due to inability to fuel their planes.

post Microsoft is releasing Open Source code

August 9th, 2007

Filed under: Finance, Business, Computers, Technology, Blogroll, hype, Blog — Tom @ 8:20 pm

I waqs flabbergasted when i saw this.I thought it was a prank. But perhaps the old adage “if you cant beat them, join them” comes into play. Microsoft will not overcome the beauty and grace of the Open Source movement.

Perhaps its not a true concession. When music style changed from the 80’s to the 90’s, instead of retiring Metallica simply adapted their style and still sold tickets and albums. This cost them a few fans but gained them more, and kept them in the game.

And now Microsoft, who once referred to Open Source as communism steps into the fray. In my opinion thats real nice, finally skilled coders can review the drivel put forth by the capitalist giant  and maybe in a round about way Microsoft will turn out some good code.

Not only releasing a few pieces of Open Source code, but also surrendering some of its home grown licenses to the Open Source Initiative, Microsoft is really making waves in the Open Source community.  Whats going on?

I think its simple, in this age, theres no longer 1 single way to do things, and when open source didnt prove to be just a trend, they realized it was a “get in or move on” thing. Blend, and continue with business as usual. A quote from the Microsoft Press release:

“Open source is neither an industry fad, nor a magic bullet.”

post AT&T Censors Pearl Jam

August 7th, 2007

AT&T censored the popular band Pearl Jam.

At this past Lollapalooza AT&T played a pink floyd song during a song with lyrics that the media giant disagreed with. The Blue Room webcast that showed the concert to many many viewers was obfuscated.

When Pearl Jam was made aware of it, they posted a letter to all of their fans. Its available on their site. Whats more, I agree with them.

Pearl Jam is concerned about soemthing, and that something is media consolidation. SUppose that all the media corporations merge, in a sense, theres just one ISP, one tv station, one radio provider. And they dotn want a message to get to the masses, what then?

Hey as far as I know the constitution is still valid, and the bill of rights is intact…. But they cant sing a song because its not flattering to the white house?  Do i smell the “third reich”? Indeed, no apology, or court settlement can right this wrong. A grave action has occurred, and if you are remotely aware of it, then you shoudl be worried, very concerned.

Suppose theres no net nuetrality? Then your emails just get lost… They remove your ability to communicate, or edit your communications to serve their needs. I think the possibilities are great, and worse, just frightening. AT&T is a big player in global communications, and i think their actions are completely appalling and grievous.

Pearl Jam is referring to the event as a “wake up call.” I am inclined to agree.
