Resurfacing Wood

Thursday, July 5th, 2007

The first important step is to choose the stain, or perhaps not to stain at all. If you have a “pure” type of wood such as cherry, or oak, perhaps mahogany, it might be that you  choose to pass on the stain. Bear in mind that sealing the wood will significantly darken it. Staining isnt mandatory, its just customary, and is based on the human need to color code things, such as matching the wood of furniture.

Assmuning you want to stain anyways, choose the type of stain. It may be applied by using a cloth or a brush, either way is efficient. The beauty of using a cloth is that it eliminates a need to clean the brush. If you want a lighter color than the stain is providing then simply wipe some off with a second cloth. On the other hand if you want a darker color simply apply a second coat, after the first has dried.

The next part of the process would be to seal the wood. Stain ends up looking blah, sealer rescues it by providing a nice shine along with protecting the wood.  Be sure to stick with the level of sheen you choose in your sealer, “satin” is highly shiny, whereas semi-gloss is only mildly so. If you  put one coat of polyurethane after 2 coats of varnish… well it will be a tragic mess.

Overcoming Hate and Violence

Monday, July 2nd, 2007

Use Knowledge to Overcome Violence…study  the situation at hand and look for a  peaceful  solution. Violence stems from wanting  to recover what a person believes was taken. Maybe this was valuables, property, pride, etc—violence is only a short term fix to try to recover these lost items and calm, enlightened methods to repair yourself give the best results.

Use Understanding to Overcome Anger…stop, listen and understand and comprehend what the anger is saying. Rage  is frustration and when its not heeded it becomes more loud. Many times anger can be reduced drastically when given a calm audience. You dont have to agree with the thought of the argument to be supportive to the person behind it.

Use Love to Overcome Hate…hate is cancerous. Every person has qualities that are wonderful and some that are less than so. Demonstrating love slows down the chance you will get hate in return.  Hating the hate breeds more hate, but answering hate with love weakens the hate..

Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Saturday, June 30th, 2007

Up until recently I would make jokes regarding “extra virgin olive oil” . Yeah, insert numerous jokes here.

Out of curiosity i looked it up. I thought i owuld hare what i learned.

Extra Virgin olive oil is the oil that comes from the original pressing of the olives. As a result, it is nearly perfect, next ot no impurities, nearly zero processing. No other methods were used to obtain the oil, no heat, etc, just pressing.

Odd, yet fascinating

Raising a World Changing Child

Tuesday, June 12th, 2007

Encourage him to read books that will open his heart, and free his mind. Noone does that anymore, noone  has an open mind, it seems to be presumed archaic. If you learn about many cultures, its more like you will be accepting of them. From Homer to Shakespeare to Dahl, minds have been shaped that have improved civilization.

Encourage the development of imagination, if he can visualize the change, if he can imagine the strength in him, than he can make the change occur. He will imagine the answers. All books have authors, and every author has a lesson to teach.

Dont keep him from the negative, the heartaches. These are important for growth too.  Trial and error is a great educator, but some lessons are painful. Any knowledge can be used to benefit society, avoid over protecting him.

Lessons of Entreprenuership

Tuesday, May 29th, 2007

One of the best lessons an entreprenuer can demonstrate is dedication, dedication couple with hard work is a very potent combination. Entreprenuers by and large have a desire to achieve, and they will, because they will not be told otherwise. They push and struggle to overcome problems, and through that work create a successful business.

Most are overachievers and workaholics. Many will take charge of a business and live with it night and day until its standing on its own, they have almost a paternal quality in this manner. They are held by themselves to be fully responsible for anything they assume within the venture, including that entity as well. Many work not for money, but for respect, or title.

Entrepreneurs tend to be optimistic, pessimism is generally not found  in this breed. they belive that they can make the impossible possible. This breed leans towards excellence and strive to outdo themselves. Organization skills are second nature, some tend to have a vast social network they can tap.

The bottom line is profit, perhaps not a liquid one, but one with which to measure the success of their efforts.
