post Ice Melts

March 24th, 2008

Filed under: News — Tom @ 8:13 pm

The second largest ice sheet on Earth is melting. Researchers attribute its melting to the global warming crisis. It appears to be motionless from the air, but beneath the surface the sheet is constantly moving, and fragmenting into glaciers, and in warm months those glaciers will melt into the ocean.

Scientists fear that this will raise the ocean level significantly, and this would put low lying cities t risk of floods. Cities in danger would be cities like New York City, and Shanghai, China.

The ocean is expected to rise 1.5 feet by 2100.

post Cement Worker Attempts to Steal Cheese

October 23rd, 2007

Filed under: News — Tom @ 6:25 pm

A 55 year old man was caught trying to steal some cheese. He was out working when he got hungry, as hard workers do, and had no money to get any food. So he tried to steal cheese. When he was grabbed by a store manager, he broke free and ran.

He ran outside and jumped in his cement mixing truck and fled. But the truck was not fast, and not easy to hide. He was arrested a few blocks away at a stop light.

I don’t know whether to laugh or too feel bad for an old hungry man. It is not like he doesnt have a job, he has a job, but just got overwhelmed by hunger..

post Dumbledore is Gay

October 23rd, 2007

Filed under: News — Tom @ 5:54 pm

The author behind the creation of characters like Harry Potter, has let it be known that the character Dumbledore, is indeed gay.

It came to light in the making of the lastest Harry Potter movie in which one of the movie folks had made a reference which Dumbledore had a history romantically with a girl, but Rowlings corrected it by passing a note stating that the character is gay.

The revelation shocked many, but there are those that assumed it all along, in fact the author has said that some fan fiction has noted this, and that it has gotten pretty creative regarding his relationships .

Rowlings says this gives the Christian fundamentalists one more reason to hate her.

A man on vacation in Australia recently decided to swim at sunset. He waded out to waist deep water and plunged into a wave.

He said the sensation was like diving and then hitting rocks, but that this rock was moving. He was drink at the time, and knows he got off lucky. The croc let him go.

He went to his campsite and slept for 7 hours, then woke up and got to a hospital. He received 40 stitches around his eye and cheek.

I think he has a new lease on life and recognizes it.

post Deer 1.5 Miles from Shore

October 20th, 2007

Filed under: News — Tom @ 11:17 pm

These guys rescued a deer that was swimming 1 and a half miles from the shore. What on earth was a deer doing out there?? They think he was swimming all night.

At first they mistook it for a seal and wondered what a seal was doing out that way, after watching it for a time they recognized it for what it was and the deer made a beeline for the boat, presuming it was a bit of land. Once it got close and recognized there was humans there it shied away. But one of the men tossed a lasso on him and reeled him in the boat where the deer collapsed from exhaustion.

They made for the shore and deposited the deer there, with a promise to come see him on “opening day” .

Jacob Allen the autistic man who wandered away from his family during a camping trip in the West Virginia wilderness was found. He was missing for four long days. His family has been terribly worried, and many many people searched for him.

The problem was compounded by the fact he does not speak, so searchers were told he would not likely call out to them, and they worried they may walk past him. The searchers called out “Come out Jay, we have ice cream for you” in the hope he may come out of anywhere where he may be hiding.

He is 18, but has the faculties of a 4 year old. His mom felt bad they promised
ice cream, but obviously they didnt have ice cream in a remote location. So shes throwing him an ice cream party when they get home.

He was found in a clearing, asleep. He was hungry and weak, but seemed okay other than that.
Rescuers gave him peanut butter sandwiches and candy bars before heading back down the mountain.

post Strange Headlines

Some oddities.

A pair of Chinese parents tried to name their baby “@”. How ingenious! I wonder what possessed them, and of course, the Chinese government did not allow this nonsense.

In South Africa a man who has been shot cannot get a doctor to remove the bullet. He was shot through the elbow where the bullet entered his body above the waist, missing vital organs and is lodged opposite of its entry under the skin yet.

He originally went to a private hospital which turned him down because he did not have enough money. He then went to a public hospital which patched him up and sent him home with painkillers. When he returned to the hospital complaining the bullet was causing pain he was told to “walk it off”.

post Obama related to Cheney?

October 16th, 2007

Filed under: News — Tom @ 8:34 pm

I read something insanely interesting on cnn.com. Seems that Barack Obama is related to Vice President Dick Cheney.

Thats not from a tabloid. That is something told by Dick’s wife. SHe has been doing genealogy research for his book. Seems that Obama and Cheney share an ancestor 8 generations ago.

Fascinating.

She says the Cheney camp does not support Obama, regardless of this news.

For more interesting reading try here and here. Have fun and happy reading!

Ah, but seems that Obama is also related to Bush! Obama is an 11th cousin of him. They share a relative in Massachusetts in the 17th century.
