post The Fascist State of Florida

September 19th, 2007

Filed under: Politics — Tom @ 1:29 am

Ah, here i go, ranting about the imminent fact that America is well on her way to becoming a police state. One man recently learned that at a Florida University.

Andrew Meyer. He asked a question of Sen John Kerry who was visiting his school. He was given a microphone for that purpose. When authorities didn’t like the topic or the way the student presented it, they first cut off his microphone denying him speech.
Mr Meyer did not say anything hateful, or racist, or anti-government. He simply pointed out that a top investigative journalist had claimed the Kerry had won the state of Ohio and should have been president.

Interesting.

But before Kerry could respond, he was brutally attacked by police, and subdued by more than a half dozen police officers. THEN, once he was pinned down, then they used a tazer on him.

The public sees this, and they fear the police. Dont speak out, you might be the next one isolated, overwhelmed, and caused pain.

The senator wanted to have a dialogue, and did not want this action. These brutes seemed to attack on their own.

A woman who had witnessed the event can be heard shrieking in videos. Protesting this mans treatment.

What did these officers earn? A vacation! They dont have to work now, but still get paid. Sign me up please!

post Exiled Leader Returns

August 24th, 2007

Pakistan’s court decided today that the former leader Nawaz Sharif, who was sent into exile in 2000 after a military staged coup, could come back to the nation, in what may be a direct  defiance to Pakistan’s president, Gen. Pervez Musharraf.

Sharif, who dislikes  the current government, heads one of the most powerful political campaigns against General Musharraf, and he desires to run opposite him for president in the upcoming elections.  The decision might  give fuel to the return to Pakistan of Benazir Bhutto, who was prime minister prior to Sharif, and has also been hiding and is a possible potential candidate to the presidency.

As a nemesis to both General Musharraf and Ms. Bhutto, Mr. Sharif’s return could force Washington to rethink their plan of backing the president as the pivot point of its war against Al Qaeda and the Taliban in the region, and many American officials’ desire to see the general and Ms. Bhutto in a  agreement  to share power in Pakistan.

post City Wide Drug Testing

August 22nd, 2007

Filed under: Politics, Government, Events, News, Consumption, Health, Blog — Tom @ 2:10 am

Scientists have determined how to test the urine of an entire community using a small amount of sewer water from that city.

The isn’t to determine any single user of illicit drugs. It would instead enable federal agencies track drug patterns and spread across the country.

OSU scholars performed the tests on 10 unnamed cities for drugs, prescribed and otherwise, from the sewers. They were able to give a good idea of the consumed substances. The results were presented to the American Chemical Society in the city of Boston.

The government has tried testing the waterways to see if its possible to drug test a whole city, but the students have made much more progress.

The chemical seen most was caffeine.

post Russia to Bring Old Aircraft “Out of ‘Mothballs’”

August 18th, 2007

The russian President said the reason they are resuming long range patrol flights is due to security threats.

Mr Putin said they had 14 bombers take off on Friday.

Moscow said its bombers began  training over the North Pole.

Russia has been conducting joint military training with the chinese.

Russia is complaining that we are too strong, and they appear to fear US aggression.

“Flights by other countries’ strategic aircraft continue and this creates certain problems for ensuring the security of the Russian Federation,” Putin said.

Russia stopped alot of its patrols due to inability to fuel their planes.

post AT&T Censors Pearl Jam

August 7th, 2007

AT&T censored the popular band Pearl Jam.

At this past Lollapalooza AT&T played a pink floyd song during a song with lyrics that the media giant disagreed with. The Blue Room webcast that showed the concert to many many viewers was obfuscated.

When Pearl Jam was made aware of it, they posted a letter to all of their fans. Its available on their site. Whats more, I agree with them.

Pearl Jam is concerned about soemthing, and that something is media consolidation. SUppose that all the media corporations merge, in a sense, theres just one ISP, one tv station, one radio provider. And they dotn want a message to get to the masses, what then?

Hey as far as I know the constitution is still valid, and the bill of rights is intact…. But they cant sing a song because its not flattering to the white house?  Do i smell the “third reich”? Indeed, no apology, or court settlement can right this wrong. A grave action has occurred, and if you are remotely aware of it, then you shoudl be worried, very concerned.

Suppose theres no net nuetrality? Then your emails just get lost… They remove your ability to communicate, or edit your communications to serve their needs. I think the possibilities are great, and worse, just frightening. AT&T is a big player in global communications, and i think their actions are completely appalling and grievous.

Pearl Jam is referring to the event as a “wake up call.” I am inclined to agree.

post Saving the Planet

July 12th, 2007

Theres  a bunch a things we can do as individuals that when examined on a broader scale will make a definate dent in the global warming issue. Unplugging electronics that are not being used, will save electricity.  I encourage everyone to get energy efficient lightbulbs. Another method to this would be to change your current appliances to energystar appliances.

A dramatic change might be to use propane in place of electricity wherever possible. And yet another instance would be to  install rooftop solar panels. Motion detectors  to monitor the lights would be a further conservation.Only use climate controls when you must and find other ways to keep cool/warm.

As a society we should be looking into furthering the development of alternative energy, like wind, and solar power. Improving our battery technology would be a boon to saving power as well.

post World Hunger

May 16th, 2007

the world produces more than enough food to sustain itself. In fact large quantities are wasted each year. The quantity of food isnt what makes world hunger, its world economy that does. People in other nations cant afford it, and a failed harvest is terrible because import costs are prohibitive.

But, you may wonder, the food will rot in our warehouses, why not just GIVE it to them. Simple. It would destroy the economy of an already struggling nation. In a nation where food is a great concern , the economies revolve around it, and their people will likely work in a food related industry. Farmers are very populous in a country like that. Others would work in a packaging or processing plant, etc.

Now take that same economic model, and add free food to it. Why would you buy food, if you could get free food? People wouldnt, and as a consequence, noone would farm, noone would be hired to package. Business would be bankrupted. Noone with jobs, and the government would have no tax money, degradation and war would soon follow.

Giving food to a third world nation would actually make them poorer…
