The Midwest Floods
August 23rd, 2007
Roughly 12 months ago many of the insurance agencies in the Midwest told their clients they would be ok to drop their flood coverage. How wrong they were.
People throughout the Midwest, but especially in Ohio have lost things from Christmas decorations, to wardrobes, toy, even irreplaceable photos.
This has been the worst flood ohio has seen in 100 years. More than one thousand homeowners evacuated their homes in Findlay. They are now beginging to return, and finding so much in ruins.
Furniture, clothes, memories. In one county, 700 homes were destroyed.
Sandbag crews tried to keep up, but in some parts the water rose to 26 feet.
At a time in our nations development when many people are still under employed and out of work, this destruction comes at a high price. Many people cant afford the extra insurance, and those that cant, cannot afford to repair. Its my hope that the federal government, will set up a fund to assist these victims.
The Ohio governor declared 9 counties in a state of emergency, but this only allows a maximum amount of 1500 dollars per family.
Some people will drain the retirement accoutns to rebuild their lives, i wonder how they will cope when they retire.
