Hot Air Balloon Explodes
August 26th, 2007
12 passengers were in a hot air balloon when it blew up. The balloon ride was in British Columbia on Friday evening. It was still tied to the ground when it happened.
All but 3 passengers made it out of the basket before the fire burned through the rope and the hot air floated up.
Witnesses say the balloon got to 400 feet of altitude before the flames destroyed it, and it came crashing to earth. They say the basket was, at that point, a fireball and it plummeted with great force.
Witnesses say they are mortified and stricken by knowing that people died in that manner.
One person jumped out at about 100 yards of altitude, the bodies of 2 others were recovered on Saturday.
Witnesses report there was a struggle in the basket as the flames took over the basket of the balloon.
The propane tanks dropped in the affair and set a trailer park ablaze
